MATTHEWS, NC- Joe Campagna hit three homeruns and drove in nine, as the Pride (5-0) set a team record for runs scored in a 25-3 blowout of the Charlotte Galaxy (0-5), Thursday evening. The club is on a roll, winning five games in a row and outscoring their opponents 51-11 to start the season.
Campagna hit his first three-run homerun in the third. It was déjà vu in the seventh as Campagna hit another three-run homerun. In the ninth on a full count Campagna mashed a two-run homer in the same exact spot as the other two, over the left field fence.
Roury Glanton hit his second homerun of the season, a solo shot to start the third. Brian Wood was spectacular from the leadoff spot going 5 for 6 with three doubles and two runs scored. The team scored at least one run in eight of the nine innings played, including a six-run third inning and a five-run seventh inning.
Coach Joe Hudak was impressed with his team after a big win. “Well obviously the guys were seeing the ball real well. The thing I really liked was up and down the lineup we swung the bat, and so did everyone off the bench. I think that’s the mark of our club, I thought from the beginning we would be a great offensive club.”
The batters were on fire all the way down the lineup. 10 batters reached base, five players had a multi-hit game, and eight different batters drove in a run. As a team the Pride torched the ball with 10 extra base hits, but were also patient as they drew 10 walks as well.
Enrique Perez had more than enough run support in route to his second straight win. After the top of the third the Pride were already up 10-1 and Perez cruised through six strong innings surrendering only two earned runs and striking out four.
“We got a chance to see guys that don’t normally pitch. Zach Shank and Jake Hammond are infielders but they both have decent arms and John Brocklebank pitched real well,” Coach Hudak said. “I was real pleased with the pitching today.”
The Pride now turn their attention to the Carolina Vipers (2-2), a team they will play four times in the next two days. The series starts with a doubleheader on the road at Charlotte Latin High School on Friday. First pitch is at 5 pm.
