York, SC- The Piedmont Pride (9-4) finished off a six game homestand with a double header against the Lake Norman Copperheads (6-5). Game 1 was a high scoring game, the Pride won 13-7, Game 2 was the exact opposite the Copperheads won 1-0.
Tee Dubose was the star of Game 1, he went 2 for 3 with a two-run homerun in the second and a grand slam in the fifth, totaling six RBI’s for the game. Both homeruns showed off his power as each were hit to the opposite field.
The Pride used a five-run second inning and a seven-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach. In the second leadoff man, Brian Wood, doubled scoring two to go along with Dubose’s homerun. The Pride hitters were patient in the seventh as Kitt Capell and Josh Baker drew back to back walks with the bases loaded that scored a pair of runs. Dubose would hit his grand slam in the next at bat making it a 13-4 game. Tommy Guglielmello had more than enough run support en route to his first win of the season.
The Pride were aggressive on the bases tonight something that Coach Joe Hudak teaches his team. “We always want to try to be aggressive on the base paths, intelligently aggressive is what we talk about. We always want to be aggressive and looking for that extra base.”
Game 2 was a pitcher’s duel between Zach English and Copperheads’ pitcher Langdon Wilson. English had a great outing but was saddled with the loss, going 5 strong innings, with four hits, six strikeouts, and the lone run that scored on a wild pitch. The Pride had a chance to win the game with runners on second and third with two outs, but the final batter struck out to end the game.
For the first time this week the Pride will play on the road, as they travel to Hough High School to play the Copperheads in another doubleheader Saturday night. First pitch is set for 5 pm.
